My class LOVES to play store. We simply grab some paper bags, our cash register, and start shopping! The children really love the idea of turning our entire classroom into a big shopping area.
Its easy. Its fun. Its educational.
The longer I do this, the more I realize that sometimes its the easy and obvious things that pack the biggest punch. Through this simple activity (that requires no prep work from me), the children count, sort, work on one to one correspondence, and we even create patterns with our shopping items. We also talk a little bit about money value and numbers.
I love it!
